Weekly Prayer Gathering

We invite you to join us this Monday, May 4th for regular weekly devotional. The theme of this week’s devotional is “Divine Justice.”

“O SON OF SPIRIT! The best beloved of all things in My sight is Justice; turn not away therefrom if thou desirest Me, and neglect it not that I may confide in thee. By its aid thou shalt see with thine own eyes and not through the eyes of others, and shalt know of thine own knowledge and not through the knowledge of thy neighbor. Ponder this in thy heart; how it behooveth thee to be. Verily justice is My gift to thee and the sign of My loving-kindness. Set it then before thine eyes.”       ~  Bahá’u’lláh

We will start at 7:00 pm with light refreshments followed by reading, at 7:30 pm, selected Holy Writings from diverse religions. The building is across from Arlington Central Library, Metro-accessible via the Orange line, between Ballston and Virginia Square. If you would like more information about this gathering or about the Bahá’í Faith please contact us.

Interfaith Prayers- the Equality of Men and Women

March 8th is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women. On Monday March 9th, the weekly Arlington devotional will be focused on the topic of the equality of men and women.equality-of-men-and-women

“The world of humanity is possessed of two wings: the male and the female. So long as these two wings are not equivalent in strength, the bird will not fly. Until womankind reaches the same degree as man, until she enjoys the same arena of activity, extraordinary attainment for humanity will not be realized; humanity cannot wing its way to heights of real attainment.”
‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Please join us for interfaith devotions, prayers, music, fellowship, cake and tea on Monday, March 9th at 7:00 pm. The building is metro-accessible via the Orange line, between the Virginia Square and Ballston stations, and is right across from Arlington Central Library. “O God! Thou beholdest Thy lovers in Iran in the clutches of hate and enmity. I beg of Thee, by Thy mercy which hath preceded the contingent world, to raise up from the earth those who will be moved to aid and protect them, and to preserve their rights and the restitution due to them by those who broke Thy Covenant and Testament, and perpetrated such acts as made the inmates of the cities of Thy justice and equity to lament. Thou art, verily, the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.” (Bahá’u’lláh)

The situation is urgent, but the persecution in Iran has been occurring since the Bahá’í Faith began. Over one hundred years ago, as a prisoner of the Ottoman empire in Acre, in what is present day Israel, Bahá’u’lláh wrote:

“We desire but the good of the world and the happiness of the nations; yet they deem Us a stirrer up of strife and sedition worthy of bondage and banishment…. That all nations should become one in faith and all men as brothers; that the bonds of affection and unity between the sons of men should be strengthened; that diversity of religion should cease, and differences of race be annulled — what harm is there in this?”

Unfortunately over a century later, the situation of the Bahá’ís in Iran is still dire. They are still being persecuted for believing in this message of brotherly love and unity. Please join us as we pray for the safety of these innocent believers and for the exercise of religious freedom in Iran.
